Happy Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Ok, I know, it's Valentine's Day (or as some prefer to call it, VD...hee hee). I celebrated by buying a beautiful brand new camera...a Canon Powershot A610. It was sad to say goodbye to my old Casio as I was very attached to it, but looks like I'll be having lots of fun with my new baby! Who needs men when you can have a new toy? This camera is way cooler, sleeker, sexier, smarter, flashier and more fun and less trouble than any guy I've met lately ;) I'm in love! Plus I can always upgrade to a new model when I get tired of it...

Wow.

Woke up this morning, opened up my e-mail and received a bit of a shock. While I was travelling in India, I had hit it off with this guy, and we had stayed in touch through phone calls and e-mails. While neither of us expected our relationship to continue, we were fond of each other, and I was happy to maintain a friendship with him. Well, this morning, after not hearing from him for a month, he tells me he's in Finland. With his ex-girlfriend. Who just gave birth to their baby daughter. WTF indeed.

I'm still reeling from the news. He told me about this girl before, but I had no idea that she was pregnant. Maybe he didn't either, and that's why I'm only finding out now. I don't want to think that he knew all along and hid it away from me. After all, he shared some really personal things with me, so why wouldn't he tell me that? I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I feel like the butt of a very bad joke.

I guess travel romances are always best left behind. I remember seeing this guy I had met in Europe years after, and it was pretty weird and disappointing. I really didn't want to see him again because what we had was perfect in its own way and I didn't want to spoil the memory of it. To me, that was a wonderful, romantic time in the hills of Austria and the sunshine of Italy. To bring it into the wet reality of Victoria, well, it ruined things a bit. Guess I should've remembered that this time round and left it well alone.

I need a good vacation...and a stiff drink.

Yatta!

Just finished my proposal...woohoo! Okay, it took me about four months longer than I had expected, but you just can't rush inspiration! (^_-) It's been a long and frustrating process, but I'm glad I stuck with it. I was ready to throw in the towel...many times. The counsellor who is in charge of the thesis completion group tells me that I'm entitled to a "post-reinforcement pause" (which is psychobabble for "procrastination"). So I'm slacking off for the next few days...although I am already a bit bored! I'm planning my reading break get-away in the meantime...I haven't been anywhere for quite a while and I'm dying to get on an airplane.

The problem is where to go? Three choices: 1) Ottawa - to see friends, go snowshoeing, go to the National Art Gallery, and my friend may drag me to try speed dating! (and if I do end up getting dates afterwards, it will be speedy dating indeed!) 2) Calgary - to see friends, maybe snowboarding 3) California - to see friends, see San Francisco (never been) and of course sunshine!! It's really exciting to think about a trip, even if it's a short one, even if it's in North America. A change of scenery is always good. I just read that it's good to take a vacation every year and recharge the batteries; vacations prevent heart attacks! All that travelling was for the sake of my health, I swear...
